What is family therapy?
Family therapy is a type of psychotherapy that works with families to nurture change and development. It is based on the belief that families are a very powerful resource available to individuals attempting to cope successfully with major psychological or medical issues or even those difficulties caused by society. It emphasizes family relationships as an important factor in dealing with symptoms of depression, anxiety, or major life transitions such as divorce, loss and death or a chronic medical disease. In family therapy, family members work together to solve these problems.
