VOCATIONAL COUNSELLING AND SOCIAL INTEGRATION
For teenagers and young adults from socially disadvantaged categories
This project aims to provide support to youngsters coming from placement centres and low-income families, youngsters with physical and mental disabilities as well as teenagers and young adults infected with HIV/AIDS. Not being able to benefit of education and career orientation and often growing up in dysfunctional contexts, some youngsters end up getting involved in anti-social behaviour. The main goal of this project is to creat a context in which socially disadvantaged youngsters can develop individually, relationally and professionally through their involvement in secure micro-groups in which they are treated with respect, valued and encouraged in their growth. The final purpose is to empower them and help them become independent and responsible persons who would be able to find a job and integrate successfully in society.
Activities:
• Weekly group therapy sessions for teenagers and young adults. During these sessions a group therapist moderates discussions and activities in the group with the purpose of facilitating self-awareness processes and social interactions between group members.
• Vocational counselling with the purpose of helping youngsters to explore their strengths, aspirations and future plans. By focusing on a positive future, the youngsters may be able to develop resilience and constructive behaviours.
• Accredited computer courses with the purpose of helping them develop their abilities in working with computers and thus increasing their chances of employment and a better place of work.
• Individual and family therapy. Teenagers and youngsters can benefit of individual and family therapy offered by trained family therapists at our institute. By using systemic interventions, we intend to involve in the process the youngsters’ families as well as other significant people in their lives.
